The rules of Poker
Texas Hold Em has three steady characters. Of course there is a dealer, and the so called, “big blind” and the “small blind”. At big professional tournaments, the dealer does not play. The game starts when the dealer gives everyone his two first cards, which will stay closed. Dealing will always goes clockwise.
Every round a player has the role of the dealer. The player left from the dealer is called the small blind, the player at the left from the small blind is called the big blind. The blinds are obliged to bet, the amount is different, but mostly two times the small blind. With this way there is always money in the pot. After the cards have been shuffled, the first bet round starts. The player left from the big blind has to bet first.
| As he calls, this means that he will bet the same amount as the big blind. A raise means that the bet will be raised, and folding means that the player quits that round. Every times a player will raise, the other players have to call of fold.
After the first round, the dealer puts one card away (the burn card), and draws three cards on the table. These generic cards are called the flop. Now the second bet round begins, which is identical to the first round. Now the first player can also choose to check (he keeps the bet the same), or to raise (raise the bet) Also after the second round, the dealer puts one card away, and draws a new card on the table, this card is called, "the turn". A new bet round starts, which is equal to the second round. The dealer puts another card away, and draws the last card, “the river card”, on the table, and the last bet round begins. Combinations:
At Texas Hold Em poker, there are the following combinations, from high to low:
1. Royal Flush
This is the highest poker hand. It consists of ace, king, queen, jack, ten, all in the same suit.
2. Straight Flush
Five cards of the same suit in sequence. Between two straight flushes, the one containing the higher top card is higher. For example, diamond 9, diamond 8, diamond 7, diamond 6 and diamond 5
3. Four of a kind
Four cards of the same rank, for example 4 jacks, 4 aces etc. The fifth card can be anything.
4. Full House
This consists of three cards of one rank and two cards of another rank - for example 3 jacks and 2 queens, or 3 times a six and 2 times a 9.
5. Flush
You have a flush if you have five cards of the same suit. For example, 5 spades, 5 diamonds etc.
6. Straight
Five cards of mixed suits in sequence - for example diamond 5, heart 6, spade 7, club 8 and spade 9.
7. Three of a Kind
Three cards of the same rank plus two other cards. You have a three of a kind , if you have three card with the same value, for example, three jacks, a 7 and a queen.
8. Two Pairs
If you have Two Pairs , you have to pairs of cards, and a pair consist out of two cards with the same value, for example, two queens and two jacks.
9. Pair
One pair has the same rules as two pair, only then with one pair.
10. High Card
Five cards which do not form any of the combinations listed above. When comparing two such hands, the one with the better highest card wins. Ace is the highest card, 2 the lowest.
